In 1969, Skamania County, Washington declared itself a Sasquatch Refuge and made slaying a Bigfoot a felony offense. In 1984, they partially appealed and amended the ordinance to a gross misdemeanor, punishable by by 1 year in the county jail and a $1,000.00 fine, or both. In 1991, Whatcom County, Washington also declared itself a Sasquatch Protection and Refuge Area.

Incidentally, it was in Skamania County that my brother actually spotted a Bigfoot while fishing at Kidney Lake.
